I Wrote This Because I Don't Have an Assistant

Tara Jean O’Brien is a graduate of the University of Southern California with degrees in theater and political science. Hellbent on breaking into comedy, she also trained and performed at the Groundlings, iO West, UCB and other places that happily took her money. She had a two-woman comedy band called VOMIT, who became regulars at the Laugh Factory and the Improv. She is currently on the Second City LA house long form team, “Brother Bradley,” hosts an online series about California’s ballot propositions (Popular!), as well as hosting/writing/editing the podcast Single Vs. Married and co-hosting the podcast Cinema Craptaculus.

She is a former headline writer for The Onion, a contributing writer to SomeECards.co and Good.Is (Upworthy). She’s written sketches for many sketch teams and you can find some of her favorite ones with Hey Neighbor or Drug Money. Her spec pilot, The Nest, placed in the Page Awards, the InRoads fellowship, and Coverfly’s pitch week. You should read it!

Tara has also been a location manager for many years having worked on Key and Peele, Playing House, Nobodies, and Girlfriend’s Day starring Bob Odenkirk. She recently produced music videos for Harry Shearer’s character “Derek Smalls” of Spinal Tap. (Officially, the coolest thing Tara could ever imagine.)

Film and television appearances include: Conan O’Brien, Tosh.o, Teachers, General Hospital, and the cult horror hit, Rubber… which is NOT a porn.
